I've been using a maxed-out MacBook Pro since late 2009 and to be honest, loved it. But when the latest version of the Air (with the backlit keyboard) came out last summer, I knew it was time to upgrade. I've had the Air now for less than a week, but it's everything I was hoping it would be. I'd been concerned that the 1.8Ghz chip would be slower in actual use than the 2.26Ghz chip in my MacBook Pro, but it's anything BUT. I'd also worried that dropping back down to 4GB RAM from 8 would be problematic, but so far I haven't had any issues. I have the same half-dozen applications open all the time that I did on the Pro and there's been no difference in responsiveness. The machine is everything you've read about it: fast, light, and very, very sexy.
Word and Excel, which used to take upwards of 30 seconds to open and "settle" on the Pro, open almost instantaneously and are ready to go. I've also noticed that Adobe Bridge has not yet crashed, something that used to be a several-times-a-day occurrence on the Pro.
As reported elsewhere, the fan does spin up and run loudly when watching flash videos, and certain screen savers also send it into overdrive, but otherwise it stays quiet and cool.
It's obviously a pricey piece of hardware, but in this reviewer's opinion, worth every penny.

I needed a portable companion for my 27" iMac I purchased direct from Apple last fall (with education discount). iPad considered, but doesn't have the "computer" power/flexibility I needed. The MacBook Air fit the bill and MacMall had an outstanding price (better than the education discount) and free two day shipping.
Product arrived on time and in perfect condition. Only issue I encountered was unable to use two credit cards on their online ordering site. Called, spoke to rep who quickly processed my order. About two hours later received call from MacMall confirming my order.
Great service, accurate, complete. I would highly recommend purchasing from MacMall in the future. Currently using Air for grad school, home business, leisure.

Excellent for every computing need while travelling
This machine is just amazing. It’s been three months now since I got the MacBook Air from MacMall and I still couldn’t get over the feeling of awe for this very beautiful computer. I almost could not put it down. Heck, it has even replaced our home desktop, to a considerable degree, as my primary computer. I use the Air for everything else, and just go to the desktop when I play Halo and WoW.
The real wonder of the Air is its portability. It’s very mobile: It has sleek design, is light, and has dependable battery life. I could use it on airport lobbies like I’m opening a smartphone. Actually, because of the flash storage used on iPhones and MacBook Airs, both devices enjoy an instant-on capability.
My only downside is the screen. At 11 inches it is sometimes too small for my big hands. I would have invested on the 13-inch model instead had I known that the Air would be this lovely. But, oh well. So if you really want a mobile computer that will give you portable computing at its finest, go for the 13-incher. I give this 11-inch MacBook Air a 5-Star all the same because I’m still pretty satisfied with it.
Everyone should have a notebook this advanced. And now everyone can.
Travelling light has never looked this good. At 2.9 pounds for the 13-inch model and an impressive 2.3 pounds for the new 11-inch model, and both less than an inch thin, the MacBook Air has been precision engineered for the mobile wireless world. Travelling lighter, and thinner than any other notebook on the planet, the new MacBook Air is designed with a fast architecture, advanced integrated graphics, vibrant display, full size keyboard, and over sized track pad. The MacBook Air redefines the world of wireless mobile notebooks.
Still the world’s thinnest notebook. The MacBook Air is still ultrathin and ultraportable, but now with all-flash storage, glass Multi-Touch trackpad, and a FaceTime camera.
Advanced Intel HD graphics graphics and longer battery life. The MacBook Air offers next generation graphics, Intel HD Graphics 3000 perfect for graphics-intensive applications. The 11-inch model lasts up to 5 hours and the 13-inch MacBook Air has been upgraded to stay up to 7 hours of work and play.
More space for your stuff. Up to 128GB and 256GB of flash storage for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively, the new MacBook Air lets you store more documents and still have room for music, photos, and movies. Light doesn’t mean empty when it comes to the MacBook Air.
LED-backlit display. The 1280-by-800 LED-backlit display gives you vibrant images and rich colors. The power-efficient LED technology also conserves battery life. Light weight dimensions, heavy weight images and graphics, the MacBook Air delivers on the go.
